Maxima Clams
  • Common Types Available: Maxima, Crocea, Squamosa, Derasa and Gigas
  • Disposition: Clams are photosynthetic filter feeders, completely harmless.
  • Hardiness: Fairly delicate to fairly hardy given proper lighting is provided.
  • Temperature: 75-84°F.

Feeding: Clams are photosynthetic filter feeders. Proper lighting is very important, most varieties of clams will not survive without very good, preferably metal halide lighting. Many people recommend that the smaller clams be fed phytoplankton once or twice a week. In addition, calcium levels must be maintained for strong growth.

Identification: Telling Tridacna clams appart can be very confusing. It's usually easiest to look at the scutes. Compare the scutes on your clam, with pictures of the scutes from other clams on this website.
