  • Scientific Name: Xenia Elongata
  • Lighting: Moderate
  • Flow: Moderate to Heavy
  • Temperature: 75-83°F.
  • Disposition: This coral is anon-aggressive and doesn't appear to have any stinging capability. It can however sometimes spread very prodigiously and shadow it's neighbors.
  • Feeding: Xenia are photosynthetic and do not take any known foods. They do however appear to absorb some nutrients directly from the water and do better in tanks that aren't heavily skimmed.

Pulsing Xenia gets it's name from the fact that the polyps of healthy colonies slowly open and close. If the polyps stop moving the colony is in bad shape. Test the water, in particular for alkalinity, and make sure the colony has adequate flow.

Xenia can grow very fast if conditions are right, they can attach to glass, and they will usually grow in the direction the water flow pushes them. Some hobbyists coax them to grow onto the back tank glass to produce an attractive background for their reef tank.
